Peso da Régua, the best stop on Portugals N2 possibly
The N2, Portugal‘s historic national road, winds its way through the heart of the country, offering breathtaking landscapes and charming villages.
One such gem is Peso da Régua, a picturesque town nestled on the banks of the Douro River, with excellent motorhome parking directly on the riverbanks, which is where Alma our Adria motorhome has made home for a couple of nights (N 41.1554, W 7.78138).
Here you have a couple of choices of spots, top of the hill the local fishing club is providing parking with EHU for the huge sum of €3 per night, but sadly the view is very ‘Car Park’ alternatively like us you can choose a riverside view but with no services for zip….
A Wine Lover’s Paradise
Peso da Régua is renowned for its world-class port wine production.
The steep terraced vineyards that cascade down the hillsides create a stunning visual spectacle.
We are even treated to our guard in the form of Mr Sandeman , standing high on the hill above.
As you explore the town, you’ll encounter numerous wine cellars, or “quintas,” where you can sample the region’s finest wines.
A Walk Through History
Beyond its wine-producing heritage, Peso da Régua boasts a rich history.
The town’s narrow, winding streets are lined with traditional houses, many of which date back centuries.
This gave us the opportunity to leisurely stroll through the historic center and admire the beautiful architecture, some of which is in desperate need of a little TLC.
A Peaceful Retreat
But for us, this was so much more about looking to escape the hustle and bustle of life and Peso da Régua is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The tranquil atmosphere, combined with the stunning natural beauty of the Douro Valley, makes it an ideal destination for a peaceful getaway.
Well I imagine in the summer it might be a totally different story, with boat trips and cruises arriving on an hourly basis, it might just impact if the riverside heaven.
