Lamengo Portugal and a little truth about Paul’s personality
The curse of me (Paul) – I’m bad, if I see something the looks different or interesting than I kinda end up wanting to go and see it and today’s destination is no expection
To make matters slightly worse, sadly this is one of the few towns that we have come across so far on our N2 road trip that hasn’t provided dedicated motorhome parking.
So for tonight’s sleepy spot Alma our Adria motorhome is tucked away in the tree line carpark just a few hundred meters away from one of the most epic sights so far. (N 41.0933, W 7.81541)
So why are you here?
We, well I stumbled upon the charming village with an amazing church.
Nestled amidst rolling hills and verdant valleys, this quaint town offered a serene escape from tourist and a seek into something very special.
Our journey although only about 15 km from our last stop was as enchanting as the destination itself.
The winding roads, lined with ancient olive trees and picturesque vineyards, took us through charming villages and breathtaking vistas.
As we approached, a sense of anticipation grew inside me , fueled by the promise of a unique pilgrimage.
The magnificent church stands as a beacon of faith and hope.
To reach this sacred site, we embarked on a challenging but rewarding climb of 686 steps.
Each step brought us closer to the church and to a deeper appreciation of the village’s spiritual significance.
BTW apparently it’s 686 steps
As we ascended the steep staircase, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The lush green landscape, dotted with quaint houses and terraced vineyards, stretched out before us like a masterpiece.
The air was crisp and invigorating, and the silence was broken only by the chirping of birds and the distant sound of church bells.
Finally, we reached the church, a magnificent structure that has stood the test of time.
The interior of the church was equally impressive, with its ornate altarpieces, stained-glass windows, and intricate carvings.
We spent some time exploring the church and reflecting on its spiritual significance.
Back down each and every one of those steps
After our pilgrimage to the church, we descended back to the village center. We wandered through the narrow, winding streets.
What a find !
First off a stamp in our N2 passport and then around this stunning little town, into its free to enter castle, cistern and archaeological dig site.
Lamengo is a place where time seems to slow down. The peaceful atmosphere, the stunning scenery, and the warm hospitality of the locals create a truly unforgettable experience. If you’re planning a road trip through Portugal, be sure to add Lamengo to your itinerary.
