Our first stop in the Champagne region- Troyes

Troyes, nestled in the heart of the Champagne region of France, often gets overshadowed by its bubbly neighbours (see what I did there).

But for those seeking a destination rich in history, architectural beauty, and unique charm, Troyes deserves a place on your travel itinerary.

Motorhomes are well served here, but oddly and probably only the second or third time this trip we are all alone on a beautiful, inner city aire.

A short 10 minute stroll see us entering this historic marvel.

As you step into Troyes, prepare to be transported back in time.

The city center is a treasure trove of half-timbered houses, their colorful facades adorned with intricate carvings.

Wander through narrow streets lined with these architectural gems, each one whispering stories of a bygone era.

Troyes Cathedral, a magnificent structure towering over the city, is a must-see.

This Gothic masterpiece, with its stained glass windows filtering in colorful light and its awe-inspiring stained glass windows, will leave you breathless.

Don’t miss the stunning stained glass window known as the “Arbre de Jessé” (Tree of Jesse), a masterpiece of storytelling in glass.

No visit to Troyes is complete without a stroll down the Rue des Chats. This narrow, picturesque alleyway earned its name from a time when cats were said to be plentiful, gracefully leaping from rooftop to rooftop thanks to the close proximity of the upper floors. While feline sightings may be less frequent today, the charm of the Rue des Chats remains.

This charming city deserves more than a fleeting visit.

With its rich history, architectural wonders, and vibrant culture, Troyes offers a unique and unforgettable travel experience. So, raise a glass of Champagne, and get ready to discover the hidden gem that is Troyes.
