A Fairytale Escape, the Enchantment of Châteauneuf

After encountering one too many of the current farmers protests, we decided to call it a day and got the site apps looking for a friendly aire to rest from the very slow travels.

We have always loved France and adore the fact that you never really know what is around the corner, from mass industrial sites to sleepy villages and in today’s case a chance to see something magical!

Fairytale villages do exist, and Châteauneuf-en-Auxois in Burgundy, France, is a prime example.

Nestled amidst rolling hills and vineyards, this charming village, classified as one of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” (Most Beautiful Villages of France), transports you to a bygone era.

Here, time seems to slow down, inviting you to wander cobbled streets, explore historical wonders, and soak in the undeniable French charm.

They even offer us motorhome a safe and free spot to park, with a special wow vista.

As you enter Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, prepare to be captivated. The village unfolds like a scene from a storybook.

It’s a Medieval Marvel as we aimlessly Stroll along narrow, winding streets lined with half-timbered houses dating back to the 14th and 17th centuries. You just have to let your mind Imagine the secrets these walls could tell!

The main focal point to the entire viallge is Château de Châteauneuf, currently under huge renovations as they shore up to the ruins of the 12th-century castle, once a powerful fortress guarding the region.

Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and let your imagination wander back to a time of knights and chivalry.
