BelgiumCity EscapesEuropean motorhome Travel- Vanlife

Oh,my god a night under the underpass in Ghent!

They say it’s all about Location,Location, Location but for us motorhome travellers you can’t always get the endless sunsets and beautiful locations together and this park up is just one of those!

Alma our adria vision is parked on the official motorhome aire which is under a fly over,

Alright, it’s not totally under the motorway, but I don’t think that this view will win many awards- do you ?

But for €12 a night we’ve got secure barrier controlled parking including electricity and short walk, to this buzzing Belgium city we can’t help but feel like we’ve stumbled into a fairytale and hit the location jackpot!

This charming city is packed with medieval architecture, cobbled streets, and canals that wind their way through the heart of the old town.

There are plenty of things to see and do in Ghent, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Be sure to visit the must-see sights, but also take some time to wander around the city and explore the hidden gems, it slightly off the main tourist route, so a great balance of tat (for the tourists) and a real life working Belgium city.

This imposing 12th-century castle is one of Ghent’s most popular tourist attractions. Visitors can explore the ramparts, dungeons, and towers, and learn about the castle’s fascinating history.

Forget your run-of-the-mill statues!

This 28-figure behemoth isn’t just a tribute to the artistic titans Jan and Hubert van Eyck, it’s a time capsule of Ghent’s golden age. Each sculpted character, frozen in mid-stride, whispers tales of medieval merchants, stoic scholars, and even the occasional mischievous jester.

But Ghent is more than just museums and masterpieces. It’s a city that pulses with contemporary energy.

We wander through the Graffiti Street Art Museum, a vibrant open-air gallery showcasing the work of local and international talents. Murals explode with life and color, transforming forgotten walls into canvases for bold social commentary and whimsical street art.

As we return to our Adria Vision under the twinkling night sky, Ghent leaves an indelible mark on our hearts. It’s a city that whispers stories from every corner, a tapestry woven with threads of art, history, and contemporary cool.

Paul.
