Back to Foz, Spain and an epic cycle to see the rock formations
It’s a funny thing when you return to a destination that’s you’ve already visited before……..
As we were looking at the map, Michele says ‘let’s go back to Foz’ with no real reason why my heart sank a little, in my head it was dreary town but with a nice harbour side. But this trip as always is a joint thing and hey ho maybe be completely misremembering ?
If Carlsberg did Camper Parks ….
So Alma the Adria is parked up in, what can only be described as probably the best Camper Park along the coast and since our stay 2 years ago they had expanded and built a small bar area, folks I give you a return visit to Atalaia camper Park, Foz, Spain (N 43.5793, W 7.27402).
So after completing some all important chores, in other words stuffing the washing machines full, one of the joys of life on the road …..
We headed off along the spectacular coastline walk and towards Foz itself, it’s probably not more than a 35 minute walk but the path hugs the coastline all the way, providing glimpse of the pure white sands and amazing coves.
With my adventurous side needing a little bit of something, yep I’m a little like Jonny 5 from that 80’s classic short circuit i ‘need input’ I pinged open Google maps and had a Quick Look around for things to see.
Eureka!!!
Asturian Coast Cycling, a Stunning Bike Ride
A mere 18km away a masterpiece of Nature.
Awaking to a perfect blue sky day we left with the promise of sun kissed horizons casting a golden glow over the tranquil waters of the Cantabrian Sea.
As we set off on ours bicycles from the charming coastal town, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. The 18 kilometre journey to the iconic Cathedral Beach was about to unfold a day filled with breathtaking scenery.
The route, thanks to Google maps was said to be ‘moderately hilly ‘ and wound its way though tiny villages and hamlets, keeping us far from the main roads but equally offering stunning views of the countryside.
Thankfully we rounded one last corner and the fresh sea breeze caressed my face, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore providing a booming soundtrack and we had arrived!
The landscape became even more dramatic. Towering cliffs, sculpted by centuries of wind and waves, framed the pristine sandy beach.
The cathedral-like rock formations, which give the beach its name, are a sight to behold.
Parking up the bikes, we join the cleverly constructed deck led boardwalk and head to each of the view points in turn.
We paused to admire the breathtaking view, the salty air filling our lungs and the sun warming our skin, leading us to pinch ourselves and remind us that it’s actually November and we are still on the north coast of Spain.
After a well-deserved break to soak up some sun and enjoy a picnic lunch and a bottle a Apple juice it was time to head homeward.
This cycling adventure along the Asturian coast was a truly unforgettable experience. The stunning scenery, the fresh air, and the sense of freedom that comes with exploring on two wheels made it a perfect way to spend a day. But when Google says ‘moderately hilly’ it means your legs are in for one hell of a workout.
