Another Unesco site in Amiens
we swapped the open road for the historic heart of Amiens, a city brimming with charm and character.
Our trusty Adria Vision, Alma, found a comfy spot in a newly opened aire come campsite just outside the city center, and we set off on foot along the beautiful canal, eager to explore.
Our first stop, of course, was the awe-inspiring Amiens Cathedral.

This Gothic masterpiece is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason.
The sheer scale of it is staggering – the tallest cathedral in France, boasting the widest nave in the entire country.
As we approached, the intricate stonework seemed to shimmer in the morning clouds , and the gargoyles perched on the roof seemed to watch us with mischievous grins.
Stepping inside was like entering a sacred forest.
Light filtered through the massive stained glass windows, casting colorful hues on the towering pillars and vaulted ceilings.

We wandered through the cathedral, marveling at the intricate details – the beautifully carved choir stalls, the ancient tombs, and the sheer artistry that went into creating this architectural marvel.

It’s no wonder Jules Verne, the famed science fiction author who hailed from Amiens, chose this cathedral as a setting for his novel “The Pathfinder.”
Speaking of Verne, after soaking up the cathedral’s beauty, we decided to follow the Jules Verne Walking Trail.

This charming route winds its way through the historic city center, taking in key landmarks from Verne’s life and works.
We strolled along the picturesque canals, lined with colorful houses and bustling cafes, imagining Verne himself wandering these very streets, his mind buzzing with fantastical stories.

The trail led us past Verne’s childhood home, a modest townhouse now transformed into a museum dedicated to his life and works.

It was fascinating to see the spark of creativity that ignited his imagination in this very city.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow on the canals, tomorrow , we head onward, but a piece of our hearts will remain under the shadow of the magnificent Amiens Cathedral.
