European motorhome Travel- VanlifeFrance

What to do on a rainy day ?

Ok, we’ve been lucky, all right beyond lucky, since we left today is the first day that we have been trapped in the motorhome, outside it is grey, dark, damp and freezing cold!

To the point that we have pulled into the aire at Castelsarrasin (N44.038630 E1.102150), mainly because it offers overnight parking and electric for €2.50- so we can hammer the gadgets (and recharge fast) and leave the heating on 24/7

Today Paloma is sharing the site with a few other French vans, all of them look like they are staying safe inside too!

So what can you do, when you have to have a van day ?

Reading

There is nothing more relaxing to most people than sitting down with a good book and reading a good mystery or action story.

And on a rainy day, you can do just that in your Motorhome sit back, prop up your feet, and catch up on reading those books you have been wanting to read.

As weight conscious travellers, there’s no way we could have carried enough real books to see us through the last 8 months, but thanks to the power of E-books we have with us a library of around 2000 books and the ability to download new ones if we ever wanted.

We also signed up to Book Bub which has some free book offers and e mails them to you.

Adult Colouring Books

That right folks Colouring books are no longer just for the kids. In fact, adult Colouring books are all the rage right now. And while researchers and art therapists alike have touted the calming benefits for over a decade, I think Michele would agree she uses it more to sit peacefully and reflect- plus she is really a big kid.

Cards

Well neither of us could ever say we really play cards, but before we left we bought ourselves a pack of cards and a cribbage boards ….. yep still learning !

Dominos

Who knew there was actually real skill to how to play, it a little old fashioned but it’s easy to learn and will probably take a lifetime to master.

And if all else fails……..

A good old movie

Amazing but true, but we do have a tv with us. It’s mounted in our bedroom, so that we can snuggle down under the duvet and indulge in a little escapism.

A bit like the books, no way on earth could we lug about a whole collection of movies, but thanks once again to the magic of the digital world we have enough movies and series box sets loaded on memory sticks to keep us entertained for along along time…..

Paul.

  • All of the above (except J will not learn Cribb), plus:
    – knitting
    – planning: trawling through the guide books, apps and maps
    – occasionally a teeny bit of cleaning or mending!

Not a bad thing to have an enforced quiet day every now and again.

Well we’re both still learning on the crib!

I forgot planning, that very true- but as our map and guide books live out on the table all the time, it’s easy to overlook

Yep a quiet day, can be a good thing as it help to relax us !

Yes, indeed: playing games, reading (no ebook yet but then again only away on short trips- max 1 month in summer), planning, looking around the moho for upgrade possibilities, or just looking around and being proud and happy with our little Exsis.
Can I ask a question, please… As for the memory sticks, what type and how big are yours, good brand? We suppose you only watch when on hookup?
Enjoy the test of the trip! Merry Christmas!

We- well Michele lives her tv, so 8 months in the van was a shock to the system, we have a few 64gb sticks which weren’t much more than £15 notes a pop…. and we used our cello tv on 12v as the draw is minimal, we waded through the whole of Morse and Lewis plus GOT

Thanks a lot for your reply. It took me a while to read it since my mum was taken to hospital on Christmas Day… Now Iwill have to have a look whether we have a telly that takes a stick… The telly came with the van, but we removed it immediately…
        Meanwhile: happy and safe 2018!
